The Sutra Series is a 4-part study of The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali with Sanskrit scholar Patti Hammerlee. Each class will be 3.5 hours long and will include a short meditataion and contemplation at the beginning. Midway through the class, there will be a 30-minute break for community connection.
Together, we will explore the timeless wisdom of the The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali, one of the foundational texts of the yoga tradition. Through study of the text, lecture, and discussion, this series will offer students an opportunity to deepen their understanding of yoga’s rich philosophical and spiritual roots.
Patti will guide us through key sutras and themes, helping illuminate the language, context, and meaning of this ancient text in a way that is both accessible and relevant to modern life. The series will invite participants to reflect on the nature of the mind, the causes of suffering, the path of practice, and the possibility of greater clarity, steadiness, and freedom.
This series is open to yoga teachers, dedicated practitioners, and anyone interested in deepening their relationship to yoga philosophy. No prior Sanskrit study is required—only curiosity, openness, and a willingness to engage with the teachings. Please bring any translation of The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali to each class.
