Autumn Ayurvedic Cleanse

October 18 - Nov 1, 2018

Why Cleanse?

We know that through the sheer pace of modern life, the stresses and pressures we are under, our environment and the foods we eat and drink, we accumulate toxins, or ama in our bodies and minds. In Ayurvedic philosophy it is believed that ama is the root cause of all disease. Signs of ama include poor digestion and elimination, issues with sleep, inability to focus, irritability, anxiety and weight gain. This is why in Ayurveda, cleansing is recommended annually – traditionally it is done in the autumn or spring season, or both. Ayurvedic cleansing brings you into a state of balance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It is considered a “rebirth.”

What is an Ayurvedic Cleanse?

An Ayurvedic cleanse is a gentle, but profound detoxification program for the body, mind, heart and spirit and has three phases. The first phase is called the Preparation Phase where we make dietary changes and begin to integrate daily self-care practices to prepare our bodies for detoxification. The second phase is the Detoxification Phase, and during this time you will eat Ayurveda’s nourishing and delicious grain, lentil and vegetable dish, called kitchari.  Kitchari is simple and easy to make, and with it’s warmth and spice, it is the perfect food for this season. During the detoxification phase, in addition to the daily self-care practices, there are other cleansing techniques that you can choose to integrate: basti (herbal enema) and virechana (purgation). We will discuss these in much more detail when we are together and give you the option to do them. The final phase is the Rejuvenation Phase, where you begin reintroducing foods that you wish to back into your diet, as well as taking herbal supplements to support your transition.

What are the Benefits of an Ayurvedic Cleanse?

Although gentle and easy to follow and commit to, an Ayurvedic cleanse has a profound effect on every aspect of our being. Transformation occurs at the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. Benefits include:

  • Digestive health – reset your digestive system and experience regular elimination
  • Weight loss – if you need to lose weight, you will
  • Sound sleep – sleep better and deeper
  • Calm mind – a clear and peaceful mind, even in stressful situations
  • Renewed energy – Increase your energy and feel vibrant
  • Joy – balance brings happiness and a sense of lightness in body and mind

Should I do an Ayurvedic Cleanse?

If you experiencing imbalances of any kind, including digestive issues, interrupted sleep, hormonal imbalances due to peri-menopause, low-energy, stress, anxiety, inability to focus, weight gain or a loss of connection to yourself, an Ayurvedic cleanse can help you reset and bring balance and harmony.  Cleansing with the guidance of Tami and Jodi throughout, as well as together with the other women in the group, provides you with the support you’ll need to move through the program easily.

Ayurvedic cleansing brings you into a state of balance physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

What's the Time Commitment?

Prior to the cleanse, we will send you an Ayurvedic constitutional questionnaire to complete. Then, you will also schedule a 30-minute phone consultation with one of us, where we will discuss your Ayurvedic constitution and any imbalances you may have. We will meet as a group for three evenings over three weeks. Also, daily, you will need to prepare your meals (we will give you many tips for doing this with ease) and do your self-care practices, such as self-oil massage, gentle yoga, meditation, a short walk outside, pranayama and journaling. Remember, with yoga, meditation and pranayama, the amount of time you spend doing these practices is less important than doing them consistently. In Ayurveda, consistency is the key. We will provide you with two recorded 10-minute meditations and guided breathing audios. You can go to a yoga class or do some gentle yoga at home.
You are probably already doing these self-care practices sometimes and know the difference that they make to your life. The cleanse will help you to re-commit to them and bring them into your daily routine.
